On August 25,
Robert W. Waddell, RICP, a 25-year MDRT member and longtime MDRT Foundation
volunteer, experienced a direct hit by Hurricane Harvey in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
The storm caused extensive damage in the region and set a record for the most rainfall from
a single storm in the history of the continental United States. Waddell received an outpouring
of personal support from the MDRT community, and MDRT and the MDRT Foundation donated a
combined $100,000 to charities leading relief efforts in Texas.
“The donations to the Houston Food Bank and Clean the World are very much appreciated and needed,” Waddell said. “That is why it is so important to donate to the Foundation — so we can make sure that in times of need, MDRT is ready to help people around the world.”
Using generous donations from members and industry partners, the MDRT Foundation awards grants to charitable causes around the world. Since 1959, the Foundation has awarded more than $32 million to charities endorsed by members.
This year, the MDRT Foundation changed its traditional Fall Phonathon fundraiser to MDRT Gives Day, an online day of giving. Waddell, a longtime donor and volunteer with the Foundation, will lead the online efforts Nov. 8.
There are many opportunities to support the Foundation throughout the year. During each MDRT meeting (including the Annual Meeting, Top of the Table Annual Meeting and MDRT Experience and Global Conference), the Foundation spotlights a charity to raise funds and awareness for their respective causes.
br> Outside of meetings, there are opportunities to support the Foundation’s mission with donations of life insurance (which allow your premium payments to be donations to charity), matching gifts, tribute gifts, speaker fees and recurring monthly gifts.
